Survey: Gas prices flat in 2-week span

Experts say gas prices have been "flat" for the past two weeks. How are things in your neck of the woods, like, say Florida?

How do I know I'm not getting ripped off when I take my car in for service or repairs?

Short answer: You don't.

But according to Yahoo! Auto Tips, "The "rip-off" is really a lack of communication or a misunderstanding between the parties involved."

The most cited car companies on Twitter

This is a really fascinating study on what car companies are being mentioned the most on Twitter. It's not necessarily about follower numbers or speaking "to an audience that isn't listening". It's about influencing influencers...

Leading independent consumer motoring website, honestjohn.co.uk, has analysed six months of Twitter data to reveal the car manufacturers that are tweeted about the most, which models are frequently mentioned and which industry figures are the most influential. The results can be seen at: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/twitter.

Those car companies that perform well are not just being mentioned on Twitter, but are actively influencing others, with research showing that it’s not just about building up a massive follower base, either. Although some of the most influential people identified through the research have a large follower base, others don’t. The most successful Tweeters influence the influencers, rather than speak to an audience that isn’t listening.

Worst of Show: Automotive Atrocities in Monterey

By Claire Martin of MSN Autos

"Celebrating the oddball, the mundane and the truly awful of the automotive world," is the slogan for the Concours d'LeMons auto show, held for the past two years during California's Monterey Auto Week. Considered an antidote to the pristine collector cars shown at the Pebble Beach Concours d' Elegance, the LeMons show lauds the offal of the automotive industry in all its rusty, quirky, questionably safe glory. Judges dole out awards in categories such as Swedish Meatballs, Rust Belt American Junk, Pimp Mobile and Unmitigated Gaul (aka French cars). Here are the LeMons highlights — or lowlights, depending on your perspective.

Carmoza Prez Peter Fong rocks out at the Chrysler Dealer Announcement Show 2010

We caught Carmoza President Peter Fong checking out the current Chrysler 300 at Chrysler Group's Dealer Announcement Show 2010 in Orlando today.

Before coming to Carmoza, Peter worked on resurrecting the Chrysler brand in 2009 as Chrysler emerged from bankruptcy with Fiat, so he was excited, he said, to be part of the excitement for a new start for Chrysler going forward.

(He's probably also wondering if the new model will be the one he worked on!)

Looks like you'll be spending less at the pumps for a bit...

By SANDY SHORE, AP Business Writer Tue Sep 7, 4:23 pm ET

Motorists should see pump prices slide again after spending a little more to fill their tanks over the Labor Day weekend.

Two separate surveys said the average retail price was about $2.682 for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline as the weekend ended.

The national average was $2.682 a gallon Tuesday, according to AAA, Wright Express and Oil Price Information Service. That's 0.5 cent higher than a week ago and 9.9 cents higher than a year ago.

Ferrari 458 Italia recalled

Woe to the transporter who scratches a $550,000 car. Can't do much if it bursts into flames of its own accord, though!

Of the five Ferrari 458 Italia supercars that combusted worldwide, two caught fire in China, highlighting the number of people in China who will pay $550,000 for a car.

By Peter Ford, Staff writer / September 3, 2010

You may have missed the news this week that Ferrari has recalled all its 458 Italia supercar because five of them have recently burst into flames.

You are unlikely to have been personally concerned: The Italian company has made only 1,248 of these vehicles, selling them to the likes of Eric Clapton.

What caught my eye about the story was that two of the five flaming Ferraris worldwide caught fire in China.

That’s the sort of factoid that gives meaning to the striking statistics one comes across from time to time about Chinese incomes – the ones that say China has 64 billionaires, more than any other country except the United States (according to Forbes’ 2010 rich list), or that China’s Gini coefficient, measuring income inequality, is 0.47, one of the highest in the world (according to the World Bank.)
