Auto shipping to warmer climates

Many Americans who live in cold climates like to move south for the winter months. And most want to take their car with them. Auto shippers take great care to transport your car safely to its destination, but there are a number of precautions you, the owner, can take to prepare your car for transportation.

Here are four basic precautions auto shippers always advise to ensure your vehicle remains intact during its journey:
  • Remove all personal items from your car, because auto shippers aren’t responsible for any damage to them or for any damage they might cause to your car.
  • Make sure any antennas or other loose items are secured, and turn off your alarm.
  • If you have a car cover, remove it.
  • Auto shippers usually request that an operable car has a quarter tank of gas, as well as adequate air pressure in the tires, so it can easily be driven on and off the trailer.
  • Auto shipping companies advise you check on your vehicle’s coolant levels so the car doesn’t overheat in the warmer climate.

If you ask, most auto shippers will provide you with a checklist on how to prepare your car for transportation.
