Buying a Used Car: What You Need to Know

These days, it makes more economic sense to buy a used car. Not only is it cheaper and can still provide a good quality life, most used cars at dealers aren't from trade-ins; they're dealer-bought at professional auctions with low mileage and good maintenance records.

If you're going to invest in a used car, a few things to take into consideration would be:
  • Buying an extended warranty

  • Research the lemon laws in your state. (A lemon is a vehicle that's plagued with serious defects)

  • Consider how you'll finance the car

  • Check on insurance costs with a few companies to get an idea of rates and see if you can afford them

  • Factor into your budget transportation of the car to you found it out-of-state, online etc.

  3. The reality of financing a used car is that it has a shorter term, but a good credit is not required. A good used car dealer helps you adjust the contract terms in cases of refinancing a car loan and works with you in getting the ideal loan for you. Regarding insurance, you have the option of buying just the basic one.

  6. Pre-purchase inspections have made buying pre-owned cars a lot safer by eliminating the worries of landing a low quality vehicle. Buying pre-owned has indeed been the trend lately.
